I’m absolutely excited to chat about something that’s close to my heart: why summer sessions are simply the best, especially in our gorgeous Seattle area.
The Perfect Weather
First off, let's talk about the weather. Seattle in summer is like a hidden gem – not too hot, not too cold, just right. We get those perfect sunny days that are warm enough to make you want to be outside but not so scorching that you feel like you're melting. The average highs are in the mid-70s, and let me tell you, that’s the sweet spot for photography. The light is just dreamy – think golden hour that lasts forever, casting that soft, glowy light we photographers swoon over.
Endless Outdoor Opportunities
Now, if you’ve ever been around Seattle in the summer, you know the skies clear up and the rain takes a bit of a break. This means we have endless opportunities to explore the stunning locations our area has to offer without worrying about the typical PNW drizzle. From the lush greenery of Discovery Park to the stunning waterfront at Lincoln Park, the options are endless and oh-so-beautiful.
Flexible Scheduling
One of my absolute favorite things about summer sessions is the flexibility they offer. With longer days, we can schedule shoots later in the evening when the light is just magical. Think about those warm, golden rays wrapping around you and your loved ones as the sun starts to dip. It also allows for a lot more flexibility when scheduling in home sessions. In the winter, sessions really can only happen in home between 10am-2pm due to the lack of good natural light streaming in the windows. In summer, we can go from the minute you wake up until bedtime!
Fun and Energy
And let’s not forget the fun factor! Summer brings out the best in everyone. People are more relaxed, kids are out of school, and there’s a sense of freedom and adventure in the air. Whether we’re capturing a playful family session at home, a family adventure at a local park, a newborn session at home, or a senior session with those iconic Seattle backdrops, there’s an energy that’s simply contagious.
Easier Summer Wardrobes
Speaking of energy, summer wardrobes are another win. Flowy dresses, shorts, and light layers make for movement and joy in photos. Nature itself is dressed to impress with all the blooming flowers and lush landscapes that make for great outdoor adventure sessions and at home sessions.
Cozy At-Home Sessions
But wait, what if you prefer the comfort of home? No problem! Summer is also perfect for at-home real-life sessions. Imagine capturing your family in your own backyard garden, enjoying a BBQ, or having a playful water balloon fight. These sessions are relaxed, personal, and intimate, showcasing your everyday life in the most beautiful, authentic way.
Imagine yourself enjoying a lazy Sunday mornings with the kids playing in the sprinkler, a cozy afternoon making lemonade in the kitchen, or an evening gathered around the fire pit making s'mores. These are the moments that you'll want to document and preserve for posterity! Summer provides the perfect backdrop with its long days and warm evenings.
Beat the Fall Rush
Another fantastic reason to book your session in the summer is to avoid the busyness and rush of fall. Come autumn, everyone is scrambling to get those perfect photos with the fall foliage, and my calendar fills up fast. By choosing a summer session, you not only get more flexibility with scheduling but also enjoy a more relaxed experience without the crowds.
Local parks and popular photo spots are less crowded in the summer, giving us the freedom to explore and capture those perfect shots without having to wait for a spot to open up. Plus, you’ll have your beautiful photos ready to share before everyone else is even thinking about booking their fall sessions.
Summer in Seattle is pure magic, and I’m here for every sun-soaked second of it. Whether we're exploring the great outdoors or capturing the heart of your home, summer sessions are where memories are made. If you’ve been thinking about booking a session, now is the time. Let’s capture the warmth, the light, and the love of summer together. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
