Watch Baby's Every Move
Newborns have the best little movements and everything from their reflexes to their yawns to their hiccups and even gas noises are adorable and interesting and exciting for everyone in the home. I love to take a few moments to document the variety of movements and faces babe has in just a thirty second timeline.
Everyone Loves a Good Portrait
Even though most of my newborn session is strictly documentary, I love to get those looking at the camera in amazing light images too for a little part of our time together. These big siblings were so happy to get one on one time with their littlest sibling that they couldn't help but look into the camera and smile with pride and joy!
Read Baby a Favorite Story
This family loved sharing story time with baby. Everybody took a turn reading. Sandra Boynton books were faves of my kiddos too!
Feeding time
It's so special to get to document baby's feeding time during our session as so much time, energy, effort in those early days revolves around baby's feeding needs. Whether it's breastfed or bottle fed for baby does not matter. Instead what matters is the love and connection that is present during this special time.
Close Ups
Baby gets a close up. Kisses close are the sweetest (although I can't decide if I love big sister's kiss more or the way dad is pulling her hair back while she does it). I also love highlighting a babe's head in their parent's hands (or knees).
Document Whatever Else is Happening At Home
For newborn sessions with older children, I feel as though it is just as important to document what is going on in their lives at this phase of life too. Big sister into makeup? Get her at her mirror. Big brother reading Harry Potter and obsessed with sports? Get him on his bed reading. Does the family like to go for neighborhood walks? Let's document baby in the stroller and everyone on the walk.
Let Your Personalities Shine
It is a passion of mine that in portraits or documentary images, you see yourselves the way you truly are. The stories that I document should be the ones you want to remember forever. Do things during your session that speak to the little stories of your day to day lives in this very fleeting time of your lives.
